Fossil Free Northern Ireland sand art day

Date:

2019

REF:

NIPC/CIR/BOX1(7)

Scope and Content:

Three digital photographs from a sand art day at Cranfield beach, organised by Fossil Free Northern Ireland activists, including V'cenza Cirefice. Participants created a community sculpture of the Mourne Mountains in sand and watched as the sea came in and engulfed it, symbolising rising sea levels, while children from a local primary school made flags for each of the mountain peaks. The event also featured musicians, Tommy and Colum Sands, who played mournful music as the community watched the sea come in. The day was organised by Fossil Free Northern Ireland to raise awareness of their divestment campaign, which seeks to get the local government pension scheme for northern Ireland to stop investing in Fossil Fuels.
