Storytellers in Literature, Theatre and the Arts

The voice of many individuals, communities and groups can be heard through the Linen Hall Library’s Literary and Theatre and Performing Arts archives. Over the years the Linen Hall Library has collected some of the most recognised writers from Northern Ireland’s illustrious literary and theatre history and the creative outputs of community engagement with the collections. Women’s contributions frequently feature in the archive through diaries, letters, published and unpublished works, and photographs. These archives provide a holistic reference point for the work and lives of these talented women. Some voices are gentle whispers while others shout loud for all to hear. The gravity of experience fed many their themes. Records of joy, sorrow, celebration, anger and much more assist us to understand the journey taken from 1965 to the present day.
