The posters in this online archive have been selected from the Linen Hall Library’s expansive and ever-growing Northern Ireland Political Collection and highlight and demonstrate the key contribution and progress women have made and continue to make in politics, social activism, and the peace process in Northern Ireland since the mid-1960s. Many of the posters featured have been created by or on behalf of organisations, political parties, and women-led movements including Women Together for Peace, the Peace People, Women’s Aid, the Northern Ireland Women’s Rights Movement, the Northern Ireland Women's European Platform, and the Northern Ireland Women’s Coalition. They include election campaign posters for women candidates representing various political parties; posters raising awareness of feminist issues and gender-based discrimination; call-to-action posters encouraging activism through attendance at rallies and marches; and posters produced by peace organisations championing the end to the Northern Ireland conflict. As a collective, this diverse online selection of material shows women’s leadership, persistence, and past and present involvement in the fight for equality, for peace, and for the rights of women, workers’, the LGBTQ+ community and for human and civil rights.
