Cara Sanquest

Cara Sanquest

Cara Sanquest is a human rights and social justice campaigner. In November 2016, she co-founded the London-Irish Abortion Rights Campaign, a grassroots organisation that lobbied for access to free, safe, and legal abortions in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The campaign group engaged in legal, fundraising, media, education, and protest activities, including a ‘Stand Up for Choice,’ comedy event featuring Tiffany Stevenson, Aisling Bea and Grainne Maguire in 2018, to raise awareness and encourage votes to repeal the 8th amendment from the Irish constitution in the Republic of Ireland. The group led #HomeToVote, a campaign which succeeded in encouraging 1000s of people to return to Ireland to vote yes in the referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment to the Irish Constitution. Cara also worked on the Together for Yes Campaign in Dublin. In 2019, the London-Irish Abortion Rights Campaign led judicial proceedings against human rights violations in Northern Ireland, and by the end of October that year, celebrated the majority vote that passed Section 9 of the Northern Ireland Executive Formation Bill to decriminalise abortion in Northern Ireland.

This donation contains a transcript of Parliamentary debates in the House of Commons relating to human rights in Northern Ireland.
